Our profile

In May 2004, we founded the first immigration law firm in Germany. Our law firm deals exclusively with questions of German residence and work permit law.

We advise our clients nationwide on the application for work visas, residence permits, and work permits for their foreign specialists. In our firm, we are continuing the work we started in 2000 as part of the PricewaterhouseCoopers network.

Our philosophy

Our goal is to make the start of the foreign employee’s stay in Germany as pleasant and smooth as possible, to keep the effort and expense for the company as low as possible and, in addition, to create planning certainty. In addition to excellent legal expertise, we place particular emphasis on creativity when working with different cultures and decision makers.

We inform the foreign experts of our clients about the procedures and accompany them through the application process. Through our efforts we want to ensure that the application procedures run smoothly and make the transfer of the foreign employee and his family to Germany as easy as possible.

Areas of law for business immigration

This diagram shows the complexity of the work permit application procedure with all the decision makers involved in connection with the deployment of foreign employees in Germany.

Since 2000, we have been dealing exclusively with nationwide consulting in connection with the procurement of work visas, residence permits, and work permits for the foreign employees of global enterprises. In addition to processing the case from the legal perspective, we also organise the necessary visits to public authorities for the foreign employees. Our clients include large multinational corporations as well as medium-sized companies with cross-border operations.

As a rule, we have been assisting our clients for many years.

We have extensive, very good, well-established relationships with numerous public authorities at municipal, regional and national level.

Outsourcing has many advantages

As we have been dealing exclusively with this matter for a number of years, we ensure the successful outcome of the procedures in a very efficient, quick and reliable way. We take appropriate measures to shorten application procedures considerably and reduce the risk of negative decisions to a minimum (this is important as all decisions by the public authorities are discretionary). We reliably assess the prospects of success in each individual case in advance and implement the most promising application strategy. All of this enables our clients to reliably plan domestic projects that require foreign staff.

Outsourcing the “visa procedures” not only improves planning for our clients but is financially beneficial.

After all, the processing of labour-intensive application procedures by your own employees without established and personal contacts with public authorities can tie up considerable resources, not just in the HR department.

Advisory services in detail

1. Initial consultation

Before arrival in Germany:

a) Weighting of the different legal provisions based on which a corresponding permit can be granted in a specific case; drafting of a detailed legal memorandum addressed to the public authorities involved (so that the applications are immediately put on the right procedural track);

b) Telephone and written advice to the foreign staff member and the HR manager regarding the visa procedure;

c) Revision, and if necessary, improvement, of all documents received from the foreign employee and from the domestic employer which are necessary for an application;

d) Support in filling in the application for a residence permit including the permission to work;

e) Sending a complete visa application package to the foreign employee for submission to the German mission abroad;

f) Telephone assistance to the foreign staff member in filling in the visa application form (to ensure that the application is filled in correctly);

g) Continuous close contact/negotiations with the German mission abroad and the local authorities during the application procedure in order to minimise the risk of applications being rejected.

After arrival in Germany:

h) Renewal of the work visa (since a work visa is usually only issued for a maximum of 3 or 6 months, the visa must be renewed in Germany in the form of a residence permit if the foreign employee is to work in Germany for more than 6 months);

i) Coordination of the final administrative steps with a relocation service (if a relocation service is to be involved). After entry, the foreign employee must register his or her residence at the Residence Registration Office (Einwohnermeldeamt) and collect the residence permit from the local Immigration Office (Ausländerbehörde) (an authorised relocation service can also be used for these final procedural steps). The relocation service then only takes care of the actual collection of the permits; we take care of the legal work. In Hamburg, we will be happy to accompany your employees personally during the final visits to public authorities.

2. Renewal

We also take care of the regular renewal procedures for our clients. We can also take over the entire task of screening of the expiry dates of the permits of our clients’ foreign employees, so that they do not have to fear that a permit will expire unnoticed.

3. Formation of companies, transfer of permits & company acquisitions

We support our clients when it is necessary to transfer a permit to another company or to adapt permits in case they acquire new companies or parts of companies and continue to employ their foreign employees. In this case, new permits must be applied for.

The same applies to the transfer of foreign employees within the company to other companies or ones that have been newly established. We make sure that this aspect is not forgotten, but runs smoothly and without delay, in addition to many other activities required in this context.

4. Training & presentations

For many years we have been offering HR training courses for our clients, in which employees from the responsible areas are familiarised with the subject matter in the form of in-house seminars and receive a comprehensive handout.

In addition, we give presentations in cooperation with various organisations, such as a nationwide series of lectures in cooperation with the international insurance expert BDAE or the health insurance fund Techniker Krankenkasse.
